Your letter of invitation to attend the Symposium will include a booking reference to be used with the hotels listed to obtain the special rates quoted. It is important that you book your room before the deadline (September 12) as you might otherwise have to pay the full and normal price, and that you cancel the booking if your plans change.

TRANSPORTATION

Arriving by plane:

Most attendees from outside Denmark will undoubtedly arrive by plane at Copenhagen Airport (Kastrup Lufthavn).  As you exit baggage claim and customs you will see signs for trains to Copenhagen and for the Metro.  The Metro is quite convenient if you don't have too much luggage.  Trains run frequently and will take you to Kongens Nytorv, which is close to several of the hotels, in about 15 minutes.  Trains to the Copenhagen main station (København H) are also convenient and run about once every 15-20 minutes.  The fare is the same.  If you are going to Hotel Cab Inn the main station is probably the most convenient.  For the other hotels (Opera, Maritime, Admiral, 71 Nyhavn) the Metro is probably the most convenient.  Print out a local map from the web for the last short walk.  If you have questions about arrival logistics, please e-mail Dorte.Glass@fysik.dtu.dk, but PLEASE don't wait till the last moment or you may not get a response!

How to get from the City to DTU:

The greater Copenhagen region is divided into zones that are, roughly, concentric shells around the City center.  You are charged by how many zones you traverse in getting from the beginning to the end of your journey and NOT by the number of zones that separate the two points!  A purple discount card, which you can buy at any station costs DKK 260 and covers 5 zones. This is enough to get you from the City center to Lyngby, where the DTU is located.

There are, in essence, two ways of getting to the DTU from the City center: One way is to take the S-train from a station downtown to Lyngby, and to take a bus from Lyngby to DTU.  The B- or E-trains (direction Holte or Hillerød, respectively) stop at Lyngby station.  There are several busses that depart from the bus terminal right outside the train station to DTU.  Details are provided below.  The second way is to go to Nørreport station (by train, Metro or bus) and then take bus 150S from there.  The bus stops close to the DTU (the stop is called DTU/Rævehøjvej - the bus driver can alert you to it; the stop before is called Klampenborgvej, and both this stop and the DTU stop are on the motorway going North). Travel time from the City to DTU is 45-60 minutes. You may wish to plan a bit more time on your first trip as you become accustomed to the public transportation system.

Once you get to the campus, you want to find the Oticon Auditorium located just to the North of the main building, building 101.  Most people on the campus should know which building is 101!  The Oticon Auditorium is connected to it by a walkway.  See the map below.

Currency

Denmark has its own currency, DKK. Most big stores accept foreign creditcards but the supermarkets rarely do.

Language

The main language is Danish but most people in Denmark speak English and will happily do so. If you need help - just ask.
